This Laura Cowan case study is about what happens when a founder stops being the bottleneck in her own business. Laura built the 2-Hour Lifestyle Lawyer, a program that teaches attorneys to launch and market a virtual estate planning practice. Be Known took over the ads, funnels and CRM behind it, then helped build a platform that delivers her methodology to every client. The result: 15-18 hours a week back and a program that serves 600+ lawyers.
The short answer
Laura Cowan recaptured 15-18 hours a week after Be Known took over her paid ads, funnels and CRM and built a custom platform for her methodology. Her program now serves 500 clients through a scalable system instead of her personal time.
Laura Cowan Case Study: Who She Is
Laura Cowan is an estate planning attorney and former CPA. She spent roughly 12 years in finance, including time at Ernst & Young and Goldman Sachs, before going to law school and opening a boutique estate planning firm in New York City. When 2020 hit, she moved her entire practice online and found she could run a thriving practice in a couple of hours a day.
That discovery became the 2-Hour Lifestyle Lawyer: a course, coaching and community for attorneys who want a remote, flexible practice, whether they are leaving litigation, going part-time or starting their own firm. She later wrote a book on the same ideas, The Lifestyle Lawyer Revolution. Her ACE model breaks a practice into attracting clients, closing them, and executing the work, and her advice is to spend your time on the first two and systemize the third.
The Problem: The Teacher Had No Systems
Here is the irony. Laura teaches lawyers to let systems handle the routine work so they can focus on revenue and relationships. But as the program grew, the business behind it leaned on the one person it could not scale: Laura. Ads, funnels, the CRM and client delivery all ran through her, eating 15-18 hours of her week.
Every new cohort meant more leads to follow up, more onboarding to coordinate and more questions to answer by hand. Growth was real, but it was growth that required more of Laura, which is exactly the trap her program teaches attorneys to avoid.
What We Built
1. Acquisition operations taken off her plate
Laura’s model relies on attracting leads through seminars, webinars and similar events, then converting them. We took over the day-to-day running of her paid ads, funnels and CRM so that lead flow, follow-up and tracking no longer needed her attention.
2. A consistent onboarding and delivery path
Every new member now enters the same onboarding experience and moves through delivery the same way, instead of being handled one conversation at a time.
3. A platform for her methodology
Laura’s methodology is the product, so we built a custom platform that puts it to work for every client. Instead of her explaining the same framework again and again, the system carries it.

Laura Cowan Case Study Results

What Other Professionals Can Learn From the Laura Cowan Case Study
The lesson is not specific to estate planning or to coaching. If you are an expert, your expertise is the product, but delivering it by hand is what limits you. Three things made the difference here: someone else runs acquisition so the founder is not the ad manager, every client gets the same onboarding so quality does not depend on her calendar, and the methodology lives in a platform rather than only in her head.
